Review these tips & tricks from our video team:

Equipment & Framing

  • Record the video with a smartphone or any other video camera. You can either film yourself as a “selfie” or have a friend or family member film you, if it is healthy and safe for them to do so.
  • Please hold the phone or camera in “landscape” mode - i.e., horizontally

Sound

  • Sound is important, so try to film yourself in a quiet place. Hold the camera no more than 3 feet from you, so that the camera microphone can pick up your voice clearly.

Lighting

  • Filming in a space with plenty of light is ideal. Avoid “backlight” - i.e., a very bright light source placed directly behind you, since that can result in a silhouetted image.

Content

  • Include some context in your responses, since people won’t see the question you’re answering. For example, when answering the question "Why did you choose to participate in your MicroMasters program?" you could start your response with: “I decided to participate in the MicroMasters program because….”
